I am so bloody tired of hearing about the Iowa caucuses. It's idiotic that such a small number of people should exercise such disproportionate influence.

Saw Return of the King a few night ago. I loved the movie, but can't find much original to say in that regard. It indeed provided a magnificent climax to the movie version of the trilogy. It also provided a great lesson in the proper use of special effects.

The vast majority of special-effects-laden films (think Matrix Reloaded) give the impression that the entire production budget was spent on the effects, so that there was no money left over for decent actors, or script-writers, or anything else that makes a non-effects movie a good movie. The entire movie becomes reduced to being a delivery vehicle for a bunch of technically impressive, visually arresting (well, at least they might be, if they were not the same old thing, over and over--bullets flying, cars chasing) effects. Happily not the case with Return of the King.
