Palm has just launched two new personal digital assistants or PDAs. The one pictured here is the Tungsten C. Like the Tungsten W, which is still not available in Ireland, it sports a keyboard, but where the Tungsten W offers GPRS connectivity, the Tungsten C is for use with Wi-Fi or 802.11b wireless networks. Useful for surfing the net if you happen to be near a hotspot or if you have your own wireless network in the office or at home. Surprisingly, there's no BlueTooth so you can't connect to a mobile phone for GPRS connectivity. The Tungsten C will be available next month for about ?450

The other model is the Zire 71. The original Zire was Palm's entry level PDA. Costing only ?125 it offered just the basic functions. The Zire 71, on the other hand, comes complete with a built-in camera and picture viewing software and it will play MP3 files. Of course it's a bit more expensive than the original Zire at ?345. It's available immediately apparently.

The headline is from a fictiious story a while back in The Onion but according to The Register the story is true. A bunch of spammers in the US is suing a number of anti-spam groups for $75m

Karlin Lillington got to meet one of my heroes, William Gibson, author of such groundbreaking novels as Neuromancer, Virtual Light and, most recently, Pattern Recognition. I didn't.

Just back from a lovely hour and 45 minutes with one of my favourite writers, William Gibson. With the sun streaming in through a window behind a mushy sofa, we talked everything from writing novels to September 11th to tech to utopias/dystopias and of course, his blog, http://www.williamgibsonbooks.com/blog/blog.asp. The resultant article will run in Friday's Irish Times and I will post it here as well.
