Way to go Virginia. The state of Virigina has enacted some of the toughest anti-spam legislation on the books fixing penalties that include jail time for those who send fraudulent spam to or from Viriginia. By fraudulent they mean forging a fake return address or hacking a computer to surrpetitiously send spam. Jail terms can range from one to five years for those who send more than 10,000 messages in a day. [New York Times: Technology]

Just back from a lovely evening at La Stampa. I remember when it used to be just a restaurant. Now it's a Group comprising two restaruants, a pub and a hotel. Still, the meal was delicious. And it would need to be at ?10-15 just for a starter. Fortunately, I wasn't paying. I was a guest of Motorola ? and its PR agency Park Communication - which was launching a new mobile phone, the C350.
The phone is quite snazzy looking and comes in two flavours: silver and black. The consensus among the journalists present was that black was best. Apparently, a third version in Oil Black (also known as Purple) will be available when the phone launches in June. I'll let you know what I think of the phone when I've had a chance to use it. I suppose I should declare an interest now and point out that the main presentation was given by Motorola employee Chris Stewart, who is also my cousin.

It's Wednesday morning and I've just visited one of my favourite Websites: The Onion. In an age when American newspapers are falling overthemselves to kiss the US Government's backside, the Onion continues to provide a breath of fresh air. Its "news" stories are all made up but they don't shirk from poking fun at the great and the good. This week's lead story "Ashcroft Rejected By Newly Created Bride Of Ashcroft" reports that:
WASHINGTON, DC?Attorney General John Ashcroft's quest for a companion to ease the pain of his lonely and tormented existence was dealt a severe blow Monday, when he was rejected by the newly created "Bride Of Ashcroft."
In other news Syria is reported to be harbouring over 15 million known arabs and even calls itself the Syrian Arab Republic "despite knowing full well America's opinion on these matters."
It's good to know that such publications exist to tweak the noses of those in power.
