why is it when you hit 35 that everyone thinks you need to start planning for your retirement or that getting old is just around the corner?
I don't feel that old and honestly 65 is like 30 years away..30 years that's a long time away. I know a couple of things that will be true when I'm 65 - all my cats will be gone. I'll probably have another cat...beyond that, who knows what will happen in 30 years.
Where did this start...my CPA wanted me to pay double estimated taxes so next year I could start planning for my retirement, the eye doctor says in 20 years or so, I'll have to wear reading glasses even after the laser surgery that I'm getting next week, the insurance guy quoted me for chemotherapy that he assumes I'll need when I'm 65...all of these people told me if I was in my 20s that wouldn't even mention these things...so why does this magically number of 35 mean you have to start planning for these things?
When did turning 35 mean you were getting old?
I think why is bothers me somewhat, is that my mom isn't even that old yet and she still looks really young, she's got another 7 years before she's deemed old.
Who's to say what will happen in 30 years? Honestly, I'm currently living for the moment. Today is another day, maybe in 10 years I'll start thinking about retirement but I doubt I will ever stop to think OMG, I'm old and I am certainly not old right now. I'm only 35!
