Daily rant: Our governor, Bill Owens, in all his wisdom snubbed a meeting with a French consular official, saying, "I feel it would be inappropriate...your government opposed our efforts in Iraq in order to advance the government's popularity at home and to further French ambitions abroad."
Jean-Francois Boittin, minister counselor for economic and commerical affairs for the French Embassy in Washington, D.C. came back with this: "I draw from your comments...theconclusion that I should strongly discourage French firms from considering investing in a state where they are not welcome."
Touche.
Too bad for us, the citizens of said state, who are enduring one of the worst economic downturns in recent memory. Me thinks, Governor, thou protesteth too much. Are we trying to curry favor with Washington Francophobes at the expense of our constituents? Hmmmm?
