Blatant promotion for a good cause
Return Journey: My mom's book, Return Journey: Hope and Strength in the Aftermath of Alzheimer's, has just been released from Purdue University Press. Incorporating correspondence with other AD caregivers, my mom tells the story of her journey caring for my grandmother as she descended into the disease. Anyone who has ever watched a loved one die of Alzheimer's knows that it is not a benign loosening of one's memory, but rather a complete abnegation of one's self. There isn't a day that passes that I don't remember the horror of it.
Return Journey is a lovely, but realistic telling of what it's like to live in the presence of the disease. My mom, Sue Petrovski, is donating all her receipts from the book to Alzheimer's related causes. You can order it at Tattered Cover web site or through Amazon.com.
