Email slated as collaboration tool By Rachel Fielding, VNUNet.com (September 01, 2003) reports that email isn't worth the effort we currently have to devote to it, according to analyst Butler Group's recent report. Furthermore, moving to Instant Messaging would save organizations "a huge amount of money". The report's author, senior research analyst Ian Charlesworth, told vnunet.com: "People are already collaborating like mad using email. We don't need to collaborate more but we need to do it more effectively."

Govt rings in teleworking changes By Robert Jaques, The Register (03/09/2003) is another article on the U.K.'s Department of Trade and Industry's recently released telework guidance.

"The guidance, produced after consultation with the CBI [Confederation of British Industry] and TUC [Trades Union Congress], sets out legal requirements and examples of best practice which are designed to help businesses and employees consider all issues related to flexible working. "

As blogged earlier in the "Labour" Day roundup of articles, the guidance covers a wide array of telework issues, such as tax implications, recruitment, training, career progression, and dealing with isolation.

The full text of the document, Guidance For Teleworking can be found on DTI's website, or view the PDF file directly through this link: http://www.dti.gov.uk/er/individual/telework.pdf (259K)
