Georgia's state government had initiated a new telework program for its employees that encourages them to work from home or other remote location one or more days per week. "Work Away" sounds great, but what's really interesting is their big-picture perspective, including what they plan to do next. According to Governor Sonny Perdue (my emphasis added):

'This program will reduce traffic and increase the productivity of employees while defining state government as a model for high-tech business practices."

Perdue will encourage state employees to participate in the program, which will then be expanded by appealing to the corporate world to adopt telework and other work schedule alternatives.

From the Atlanta Business Chronical article, Perdue pitches telecommuting for some state workers (Sept 8, 2003)
