And now a message from my sponsor:

There's a good reason why Quilogy was one of the handful of systems integrators asked to participate in the Worldwide PR Launch for Microsoft Office System in New York City on Tuesday, October 21, 2003. As a national leader in early-adopter solutions for Microsoft Office System, Quilogy has already delivered more than 10 pilot projects showcasing the unique business functionality delivered by this new family of Microsoft® Office System technologies, including: Microsoft® Office InfoPath™ 2003, Microsoft® Windows SharePoint™ Services, SharePoint™ Portal Server 2003, and Microsoft® Solution Accelerators for Proposals and Recruiting.

More information on Microsoft.com

Look for the Quilogy booth at your city's Microsoft Office System Launch.
We'll be showcasing our expertise at nine of the local launches. This year, we've purchased and designed new booths and tabletop displays to update our image and messaging. We've also provided new collateral material, including the Information-Worker brochure and the three versions of our company case-study brochures for Innovative Solutions, Healthcare Solutions and Public-Sector Solutions. We had the first test of our new look at our St. Louis launch on October 21st and we definitely stood head and shoulders above our competitors.

I received this article from Adam Cogan, the RD for Australia.  Titled “PDA, RIP” from The Economist, there are some interesting thoughts about state of the PDA market.  In short, PDA only devices are on the way out – smartphone devices are growing fast.  A Symbian manager says that PDA’s are dead (what else would he say?).   An analyst says that smartphone sales surpassed PDA sales this year in Q3.

Personally, I like my PocketPC Phone better than any cell phone that I have ever owned, so I understand how the market is changing.  What I don’t understand is how any serious application can be designed for a device with a small screen.  When I say small, I’m not talking about a device like an IPAQ or Axim.  I’m referring to the devices that are smaller – more of a typical cell phone form factor.

The last sentence in the referenced article says “the PDA is dead – long live the PDA.”  I say “long live a device that can fit in my pocket, has multiple communication integrated options, has a long battery life, runs Windows Mobile 2003 with the .NETCF in ROM, has more memory than I need, and a large screen”.
