There's this common, silly quote of "When life hands you lemons, make lemonade." Well...you can't just make lemonade. You have to have a container, water, sugar. With all that work, why wouldn't you just trash the lemons (or save them for a Corona) and go buy some damn lemonade?
Now, if you don't want the standard lemonade, feel free to make it...and make it like you want it. If it's really good, maybe you can then sell that formula. And then you can pay other people to make it, make money on sales and life is grand. If you're right that it's good. And you can get the word out there.
So it's not important to be a developer, but to have the ideas. Yep. Yep. I think I'm right.

Why is it that I don't want to be a developer? Reading their blogs I'm more fasicnated all the time. Jon Udell, in particular, is awesome to read. He had this quote today that I loved:
It's vital to separate the core from the periphery. But it's equally vital to connect these realms -- and the very different kinds of people who inhabit them -- with elastic bands.
I also like to read the code even though I can't write it. Is that weird? A little, yeah. It's just that it's powerful to know how to do something. Can you be just as powerful if you're just involved in the planning and idea exploration? Possibly, possibly. But you have to rely on someone else. That really shouldn't be an issue. I rely on construction crews to build a house, Honda to make me a crappy car, and so forth....I don't have to make those things to enjoy them. And for the house example, I can tell them how to do it. But...maybe if I understand something because I know how to do it, I could do it better.
