This was something I read about this weekend (I'll have to get the name of the book later...something with a frog on the front) and have been trying to do this week...
To help you achieve your goals or get broader perspective on a current issue or problem, there's a question you can ask yourself. The majority of questions we ask ourselves are, "What do I want to do?" questions. Every now and again it is extremely valuable to stop and step back and ask yourself a much larger question - "Who do I want to be?" Your answers to this larger "big picture" question can help establish a broader context for how to proceed. It is always easier to discover what you want to do in any given situation when you are firmly grounded in who you want to be in the situation and in the world.
An example of this for personal use is it's Saturday morning and you have no plans. If you asked yourself "what do I want to do" the answer might be "lay around the house for four hours watching tv." If you asked yourself "who do I want to be" you might find yourself energized to get up and go for a hike or go do something that is more appealing to the person that you want to be.
Of course, this means you have to know who you want to be. I want to be an exceptional employee, I want to be a PMP, I want to be a good friend, I want to be a good daughter, I want to be healthy and "in-shape," I want to be a person who enjoys life.....maybe some of those are too broad, but you get the idea.
