The complete list of HoggFest raffle winners can be found here.  But, the story of who won the Strat is kinda justified, in a poetic kind of way...  Read on...

****************

We threw our annual Kentucky Derby Party a few weeks ago and, as usual, some new folks came.  As a lead-up to HoggFest, raffle tickets were sold at our party for the many items businesses and individuals had generously donated for the cause.

Some California relatives of one of our neighbors were some of the not-yet-met friends who attended the party and they bought some raffle tickets just to help out the effort.   Fast forward to the late night hours of last week's HoggFest.

The final drawing of the event was for a big prize, a Fender Stratocaster guitar donated by the Music Loft here in Greensboro.  By the time most of us had long been in bed, organizer Roch Smith Jr. drew out the winning ticket for the guitar: the winner was one Bill Nelson.  The next day Roch looked up the ticket stub and found the owner was from California...  Back to Derby Day

Before the Californians left the Derby Party, one of the guys took Jinni aside and thanked her for such a great time.  He then handed her a string of HoggFest raffle tickets he had purchased and said she could have anything that any of the tickets might win. One of those was ticket #069072.  Roch called yesterday to try and get some of the raffle items into their rightful hands and told Jinni about some guy from California winning the Strat.  That ticket matched one that was stuffed into an envelope in our house.

So... believe it or not... Jinni won the friggin' Strat.

What to do?  Of course the first thing we had to do is contact Bill Nelson in California, which Roch handled.  Roch says Bill was out, but he spoke to Bill's sister.  She said she's pretty sure Bill will want to stick to his original plan, but, afterall, it is a Strat.  So we are waiting for his return call before proceeding.

If it ends up being Jinni's guitar after all, we aren't going to keep it.  I used to sell guitars for a living so the Hoggard household is guitar blessed.  Also, there is money to be made here.

We are considering re-entering the guitar into a follow-up raffle, this time online, via PayPal.  Roch still has all of the original losing raffle entries which would be placed back in the running with any new entries we might receive.

We'll keep you posted as things develop.

If you are not keeping up with Mr. Sun's most excellent but graphic coverage of the Scripps Howard Spelling Bee then fortunately you have some semblance of a life.  For the rest of us, the liveblogging of Day 2, Round 5 begins today at 10:00a.

If you are just joining the action, you have some catching up to do.  Start here.  The four gruelling rounds comprising Day 1 were only bloody preliminaries to inure us in preparation for today's glorious spectacle.

All hail North Carolina combatants, Marshall Winchester and Saryn Hooks, they will do us proud or totally expend themselves in their heroic efforts.
