To all of you politicos out there who lurk around all of these local weblogs... If it is your intention to get re-elected, take a lesson from this lady. And these guys are pretty good at it, too.
For the exhorbitant price of absolutely nada, Sandy received more television exposure (TVPhotoblog) last night than your campaign cofer can afford. Ask any newsie you happen to see if they are reading local weblogs and they will tell you they are. They can't afford not to. Reporters from all media are mining local blogs for stories and leads.
But before you jump on the bandwagon make sure you know what you are getting into. A good blog requires commitment and work. Also, don't start a blog unless you have a sincere belief that people need to know what is going on in governement and inside your head. Don't start a blog unless you have something to add to the conversation other than how great you and your ideas are. We'll let you know if those things are true. If they are, you will be lavished with readers eager for transparency in their candidates for public office and elected officials. If they aren't true you might as well save your energy. If you use a blog like a public relations tool it will not get read, but, if you use a blog in a sincere effort to inform us of the issues and what your position is on those issues it will get read... alot.
Get elected, get transparent. Get a blog.
