Great weather for a speedo race

I was just checking in with Roberta in Wisconsin where she reports that it was a balmy 14 degrees today. (It was Roberta who instigated the addition of the weather pixie to my blog – maybe the weather is as much of a central topic of conversation there as it is here in New England. I mean, if we lived in California what would be the point?). It’s been above freezing here for a couple of days and yesterday’s soaking rains washed away most of last weekend’s snow. But never fear, snow will return this Sunday in the form of another Nor’easter. It’s supposed to turn to rain on the coast, but here in the snowbelt west of route 495 it is likely to stay all snow.

Glad I just bought myself a new pair of snowboots. Last year’s extended winter wore my last pair out. I was never so glad to wear sandals when the warm weather finally arrived. Barring somebody whisking me off to a warm place my toes aren’t gonna see the light of day for a very long time. The only trip I have coming up is to… tad da! Michigan! Not exactly the sunbelt. I’ll be spending Christmas week with my folks and my brother’s family in Ann Arbor. My parents are thrilled to have the whole family together in one place this year. Minus my puppies now, I am free to fly. (What, kennel my dogs?? Are you insane?)

Ah, but we are a hearty bunch here in New England. Tomorrow is the Santa Speedo Run in Boston. Photo below courtesy of www.santaspeedorun.com.

Alas, I’m afraid I will miss the race as I have to drive up to the New Hampshire seacoast tomorrow to my parents' place – my brother is in the area for a conference. We’re taking my dad out for his 76th birthday, probably to The Library in Portsmouth. In the summer we like to dine waterside, but in the winter The Library, a historic mansion that was once a hotel, is our favorite place for a celebration – fireplace, dark mahogany paneling, old books, great food. Good dry run for the big family get-together in just 10 days. Which means… only 12 more shopping days ‘til Christmas.
