Leaning towards fire or ice?

According to the Fire and Ice survey (found via North Coast Cafe), I should live in Canada. Looking out the window, it appears I already do. And then there’s that photo over my fireplace of my grandfather in his Canadian Royal Army uniform (he was born and raised in Nova Scotia). I come out way over in the far corner of the Idealism & Autonomy quadrant. I have no idea how well the survey was designed and haven’t read the book. But even if you look at it as just a fun quiz (and I love those quizzes Alicia posts over at Twilight Café!) it’s interesting.

According to the website, the Fire and Ice survey shows your position on the “North American social values map.” It was developed by Canadian Michael Adams of the Environics Research Group, which researches public opinion in Canada. Apparently Adams’ most recent book, Fire and Ice, shows that rather than coming together, the U.S. and Canada are diverging in significant ways. If only it weren’t so damn cold…

Fire and Ice

Some say in ice.

From what I've tasted of desire

I hold with those who favor fire.

But if it had to perish twice,

I think I know enough of hate

To know that for destruction ice

Is also great

And would suffice.
