Disappointed
I just found out I won't be getting that summer-long freelance work I was hoping to get. The client sent me an email saying that I'm "an extremely competent writer and course developer" but they're hiring other freelance writers for their current projects. She said they'd keep my resume on file for future projects. I'm curious who they hired and why, or rather why them and not me. (What's a bigger superlative than extremely? Maybe cheap??) I already sent her a nice note back wishing her luck with her projects and to let me know if anything comes up that I can help them with. I also suggested, since she lives in my town, that we might meet for a coffee sometime. Maybe I can find out informally what the story is.
Bummer, though. I am currently working on a smallish project. And a friend of mine is putting together a big proposal for a company we've both done work for and she'll need another writer/ instructional designer to work on some of it. I should send a note to my other client who said, a few weeks ago now, that he was going to have me do another case study for him. Oh well, continue to scrape along...
Update: Just got an email back in response to my suggestion to meet for coffee - said "great" and gave me her cell # and the days she works at home. Well, that's good. I guess it was nothing personal!
