The Crazy Lin Chao Motherly Advice Column

I had totally forgotten about Hashai blog, featuring appearances by author Anna Beth’s inimitable mother-in-law, Lin Chao, who “Can give advice like no one else.” I linked to it a few weeks after I launched this blog, but I wasn’t very organized back then. Today someone ended up at my site by googling “hashai motherly” and I thank them for leading me back to Hashai.

Check out Lin Chao’s wonderful motherly advice here and here.

This is one suitable for grumpy girl – Lin Chao’s advice to someone who wants to get over a man who disappointed her very much:

As Allison say, you pretend he DEAD. You pretend you stick him in brain with chopstick. You pretend you make him hara-kiri self with sharp Japanese knife. You pretend he go up against Bruce Lee, and he lose. No other way.

Lin Chao talk, you listen.

Added:

Lest you think Lin Chao is mean or anything, I thought I should also include part of her reply to the woman who said she doesn't want to marry the guy she's been living with for 7 years for fear that it will change things:

People so dumb sometime. They say, "Oh, getting marry change you! Oh, having kids change you!" No. No reason you can't continue to be same cool person, no matter what you do.

Gracias

Ernesto has sweetly included me once again in a list of blogs he looks to for inspiration and challenge. This morning I clicked through all the others he listed and I was reminded of that Sesame Street game that goes “One of these things is not like the others…” I felt like a tourist from the sticks who stumbled into an artsy party in the big city, all goggle-eyed and tongue-lolling. I bookmarked some of them – I’m going to stop by when I need a good brain-stretching.

Ernesto’s Never Neutral blog, on the other hand, is a regular stop for me – more like a morning yoga routine for maintaining suppleness of mind. I loved this image he posted yesterday:

You should have seen the volcanos. Very rare for

Mexico City, but the sky looked like an unmade bed

with blue sheets after a night of crazy love, and the

clouds were white giant pillows.
