Throwing a brief pity party tonight...

So my housemate K found out some scoop on her classmate/friend K's SWM housemate I met last weekend. Turns out he's 38, which makes him 8 years younger than me. I'm feeling old. Well, middle-aged, which is similar to old if you're a single woman. I just revised downward my dating profile age again, which I'd raised to actual age in a fit of self-esteem. Hell, if the men are going to list themselves as two or three inches taller than they really are... Argh. Maybe I'll feel better tomorrow at the Keene Pumpkin Festival and hunk-ogling.

Red Sox overthrow Yankees: win by Kerry now more plausible?

From Newsweek online edition (thanks, Joseph!):

Bush’s basic argument is that electing Kerry would upset the natural order of things, where grownups like Dick Cheney and Don Rumsfeld—no matter how incompetent at the plate—keep us safe at home. Now the natural order of baseball—where the Yankees beat the Red Sox every year—has been upended, making it suddenly more plausible to throw out the incumbent in Washington, too. In the showdown series, change beat the status quo.
