New forms of communication
Are you aware of Tony Perkins' Always On Network? The erstwhile founder of Red Herring and promoter of Silicon Valley business founded a new company and vehicle for his views -- the Always On Network, http://www.alwayson-network.com. The term refers to people like us who are "always on" the Internet with the proliferation of broadband and discussions, weblogs, and the like. He has put together his second Innovation Summit, which is going on this week.
As an interesting innovation in itself, he has made the sessions available live on the Web (streaming video and audio) along with a real-time chat session. The comments from the Internet chat were displayed at the conference for all (except the speakers, I guess) to see. I have experienced discussion lists, chat rooms and other such since the very early '90's including AOL's first efforts. Many of these are just a way for people to dash off an unfounded opinion resulting in very little discussion. The discussion track during the presentation yesterday was excellent. It[base ']s on again today. Perkins said that there were chat participants from 27 countries who were also watching the event live. Check it out.
Oh, yes, the conference sessions were good, for the most part. I really didn't have the time or money to attend this year. I really appreciate the ability to participate. Picked up a couple of useful new ideas, too.
