Learning Management Systems

Egads! Another three-letter acronym (TLA). This one is LMS or learning management systems. Most of us are aware of the need for constant training and skill upgrading for ourselves and the employees of our companies. Well, sure enough, someone has come along to automate this function and integrate it into enterprise applications such as SAP's human resources module.

I just received a note from Frank Strong, who handles press relations for Plateau, an Arlington, VA company that provides enterprise software that manages learning and organizational readiness. He was touting a report from Bersin and Associates proclaiming Plateau's system as "integratable" and "scalable" and that those are good things.

This just goes to show that automation is just about everywhere. And the same things we tout in manufacturing--open standards, scalable applications, integration--work just as well when automating company-wide systems.
