I'm on the Web live in a couple of hours. If you haven't already, you can still register and attend a Web Cast sponsored by Bosch Rexroth on integrated drives and motors and applications focused on packaging and food & beverage. Dan Throne is presenting, and he's a pretty interesting guy.
I worked my Regional Final boys soccer contest Saturday. It was one of those games that teaches you the pitfalls of assumptions. It was a contest between 2 of the last 8 teams standing in the "big school" division. I expected one type of match--I got another. No team work, passing or trapping at all. It was a game of unbridled enthusiasm with "kick the ball as hard as you can, run as fast as you can, and run over anyone who gets in your way." Lots of swinging elbows and pushing. In college games, we have to sign the scorebook, so we can see how many fouls we called and other stats. Not so in high school, but about 20 minutes in I suddenly realized that I'd called at least 10 fouls on one team (the eventual winner) and only 1 or 2 on the other. I wound up with (almost a record for me) 5 cautions in the match. I don't know if there was a legitimate shot on goal the whole day, but one team scored on a loose ball in front of the goal. The ball bounced high and a forward got loose and headed it in. Friday (don't call me in the afternoon) I have the state final with two of the premier small school boys programs in the state. Should be a good one.
Next week I'll be at the Rockwell Automation "Automation Fair." I may try to sneak over to FabTech and the Welding Show (all are at Chicago's McCormick Place), but I don't know if I can make it or not right now. Rockwell keeps us busy. If there are any bloggers there, or anyone else who would like to meet during the week, my phone is 937.726.1798. Send me a note.
