It seems that Bill Gates was lamenting that the general blogger population (I suppose such as Robert Scoble, TechCrunch, GigaOm, etc.) ignores enterprise software and focuses on consumer electronics. Scoble answered that there weren't enough page views among CIOs compared with the general population of Internet junkies. And those seeking page views need to reach the masses. He got some push back from a few places. See the post below.

There is something to what he says. I wrote to some sort of self-proclaimed guru of blogging in 2003 as I was starting this blog. He couldn't figure out what I'd gain from doing this. Manufacturing and automation are such small segments. I get thousands of readers and Scoble get millions. Well, that's life. I probably get a higher proportion of my intended audience than he -- well, maybe not, but what's the point. I'm having fun. That's all that matters. Right Carl?

From Scoblizer:

Enterprise Software Foodfight.

Whew, sure kicked off a good foodfight today.

Michael Krigsman says I don[base ']t understand enterprise software.

Nick Carr says Michael Krigsman (the guy above) doesn[base ']t understand enterprise software.

Will the guy who understands enterprise software please stand up and collect your 15 page views? Thank you very much.

:-)

Speaking of which, Ross Mayfield wins the award for sexiest headline of the group for [base "]Enterprise Social Software doesn[base ']t get you laid, it gets you promoted.[per thou]

Dennis Howlett tells me to check out Majority Desk. That +is+ pretty sexy.

Vinnie Mirchandani notes [base "]I take the afternoon off to watch some football, and I see what in the NFL they call [base "]swarm defense[per thou]. Fellow Irregulars - Michael Krigsman, Dan Farber, Dennis Howlett, Anshu Sharma, Sadagopan, Craig Cmehil - have all jumped in defending enterprise technologies. Just shows you us boring enterprise types have little to do even on Sundays -)[per thou]

Anshu Sharma gives us five things that turn CIO[base ']s on. Heh, CIO porn! Who knew?

Tomorrow at about 6 a.m. Pacific Time, Microsoft will have some more to add to the Enterprise Foodfight. I[base ']ll have a video up on Scoble Show.
