I just watched Ohio State beat U Mass in the national semifinals of the Mens College Cup (soccer, of course). I refereed OSU in a spring scrimmage and I thought they looked pretty good. Didn't think they were this good though. Even though I'm not an OSU fan, it's nice to see our state represented in two national championship games. Now, since I went to graduate school at Louisiana State, should I root for it or for the home town team in the football championship? Tough call. But I'll root for OSU over Wake Sunday in the soccer national championship. Sorry Jarrett.

Saw these two TechCrunch articles in my feed reader this morning regarding Google. Apparently it is seeking to enter the collaborative online knowledge base / encyclopedia market now probably dominated by Wikipedia. Remember the times when Google was known by the mantra "do no evil" (an obvious reference to Microsoft, who was large and Google was small at the time). I haven't heard that for a while. Might be a reason. Google's big now. And collecting lots of information about us. But now, the big question posed in the second article is whether Google will favor its own 'pedia over others in its search results. Not many people are like National Instruments' Dr. T who goes 17 pages down into a Google search. Most probably stop with the top three or four listings. If Google now enters the content creation business and favors itself, then there is a definite conflict. We'll have to see where this plays out. If the company starts grabbing too much power, it'll find itself vilified like Microsoft. And there are other search engines. I use ask.com a lot.
