Andrew Hargadon is a good source of information about innovation. He just posted a thought on his blog taking on the venerated Bob Lutz--supposedly car designer extraordinaire. Lutz just announced his retirement, partly because of government regulations about what kind of cars he should design. He knows, so he says, what customers want and doesn't want to design to the constraints of the government. Before all you libertarians celebrate, read Hargadon's thoughts about designing to constraints. And about the hubris of Lutz who says he know what customers want--but who is really lining up to buy his cars right now? Right, next to no one.
