When and Where Does This Real World Begin?
The only true currency in this bankrupt world is what you share with someone else when you're uncool.

Yip Harburn [posted by Troy]
Here's some trivia. In April, the US Postal Service released a stamp in honor of Yip Harburn, who was the writer of hit songs such as "Over the Rainbow" and "Brother, can you spare a dime?" Mr. Harburn was a socialist during the depression and actively worked against the extreme poverty caused by the '29 market crash. He was labeled a communist and blacklisted from Hollywood. Unable to work in many venues, he still stepped forward as one of the greats. As the post office notes, "Harburg wrote the lyrics for more than 600 songs for theater and film, all distinguished by their intelligence, humanity, and inventiveness. He wrote for many of his era's greatest entertainers, including Al Jolson, Groucho Marx, Judy Garland and Bert Lahr." Now, decades later, he gets a stamp. Freedom of thought can get something once you are dead.

You Hear About This One? [posted by ZelderBar]
Check out this ABC news story about a pastor who kicked people out of church for not supporting Bush. This is shocking, but we have to keep it in perspective. Religion and politics have long been mixed up in our country with good and bad results. From the abolition movement in the Cival War, to the Civil Rights movement, to abortion, to Kennedy being Catholic, to the "Cross of Gold Speech, religion and politics have been working together to move agendas. Thus, it continues.

Scavenger Hunt [posted by Troy]
The University of Chicago Scavenger Hunt ended today. I have to say that this would be very awesome. These teams go all over Chicago hunting down crazy items (see past lists). Here's a sample question from two years ago:

This is something on the order of Josh's plans for the bachelor party...but more to come on that later.
