Life After Soccer Last night as I was dropping Iris off for her dance class, I looked across the road at the school soccer field and saw that outdoor soccer season has started. I felt a little pang in my belly....this is the first time in 14 years that I haven't had a child in Whitehorse Minor Soccer. Jamie decided to take a break from soccer this summer, Iris is way too busy with her dance, and Alan is too old to play in this league now. He will be trying out for the Canada Summer Games Men's Team, but try-outs aren't until this week-end, so there's no soccer for him right now.
After my initial sadness, a smile started to spread across my face, and I found myself humming a little tune. I will have a summer free of rushing out the door to make a 6 p.m. game. I think life after soccer is going to be just fine.
