On Flowers and Fish The crew came back with three lovely trout yesterday....one goes to Grandma Sophie and we'll panfry one up today. There are few things that taste better than freshly caught trout!
The weather continues to be gorgeous. It's weather that by rights Nova Scotia should be getting....the South Shore of course, but also the Annapolis Valley, which is celebrating Apple Blossom Festival week-end. I always ache to be at home at this time of year - not only to see the apple blossoms but also the May Flowers. My Dad would always pick a big bunch of them for Mom for Mother's Day. And 20 years ago, after I'd had a miscarriage, he shipped me up a suitcase full of them.
In talking to my sister-in-law, there are apparently no apple blossoms at all this year, because it's been so wet. She says the leaves have barely come out on the trees. I can't remember a year when there haven't been at least a few apple blossoms out by now.

ANTHONY COOPER Garth Calkin, 98, still watches the Apple Blossom Festival parade every year, 73 years after he organized the first one.
