The Joys of Belly-Dancing The dance workshop was fabulous! I can tell I'm going to be really sore, but it was definitely worth it. Two things fascinated me: first, the similaries (hand movements in particular) to flamenco. I shouldn't be surprized....flamenco was born in Moorish-influenced Southern Spain. But this was still a bit of a revolution for me.
The other thing that I wasn't expecting was how good I felt about myself when I was doing this dancing. You just can't help but feel sexy, no matter what your body type. Belly dancing has become very popular in Whitehorse, and now I can see why. But sexy will have to wait for another time. Right now I'm off to treat my poor muscles to a hot bath.
Speaking of Spain.... There is a big international festival of music and dancing going on in Granada at the time we're there. Joe and I were looking at the line-up today. Very interesting. One of the highlights for me, apart from all the flamenco dancing of course, will be a performance by some whirling dervishes from Turkey.
