Happy Birthday Orville Last night Joe and I went to a birthday party for a friend who has turned 65. It was held at the Legion, with great potluck food and a band that played old country tunes all night. I have to be in the right frame of mind to enjoy that kind of music, which last night I was. It was great! The band is made up of older members (one white haired man must have been in his 70s) and they were clearly having a blast. I hope that when I'm that age I'm doing something that gives me that much pleasure.
Brake! Yesterday Iris went out for a driving lesson with her dad in the big truck. She's a bit freaked out about learning how to drive a standard (which my car is) and felt much more comfortable with the automatic (which is truck is), even though it's so big. She did nearly hit a fence and large garbage can, but other than that (!) Joe said she did fine. They're planning to go out again today.
Joe is also planning to take Jamie to the driving range, which opened for the season this week-end (there's still snow on the greens so they won't open for at least a couple of weeks). Jamie is a golf fiend and has been dying to go for weeks. He'll be thrilled. I'm going to spend part of today at the Music Festival, listening to a couple of my former students play.
