Happy Birthday Today is Alan's 19th birthday. Ironically, yesterday afternoon he lost his wallet. He thinks he left it in the car of one of the clients at work (he drove about 20 different cars yesterday). No wallet, no I.D. No I.D., no getting into the bars - a rite of passage for a new 19 year old. He scrounged around in his room and found an old high school I.D. It didn't look much like him, but it did have his birthdate. We'll see what happens when he tries to use it. In the meantime, I'm hoping some kind soul will call and say they have his wallet.
La-la Land Yesterday was a busy day at work. I was at a job fair, the questions about my company were steady all day, and so by the time I got home last night I was pretty bagged. I sat down at the piano and the music I was playing must have taken me to another time and place, because I completely forgot about all my plans and responsibilities for the night. When Joe came home and reminded me, it was like I was snapped out of a trance!
It turns out he and I were supposed to go to a 'kick mama out of the in-law suite' party at Ken Todd's house. His mother-in-law had lived with them for some time, and I guess she wasn't the easiest person to get along with. When she finally decided to move back to Ottawa, Ken's wife arranged a celebration party for Ken, who apparently had shown extraordinary patience with his mother-in-law. On top of that, Jamie's guitar lesson had been re-scheduled for 6 o'clock last night (as opposed to the regular Saturday slot). Then he needed to be picked up and driven to the movie theatre where he was meeting a friend. And he needed to be picked up afterwards. Iris needed to be taken to dance. And Alan needed to be driven to a friend's house - he couldn't drive himself because with his wallet missing he had no driver's license. Finally, I had my flamenco dance class last night.
With all that, we never did make it to Ken's house. We're good, but we're not that good! I'll pass on my best wishes later this week-end.
