Road Trip
I had to make a run out of town today to get some papers signed by the Chair of our board and my task took me to Carcross....a little town about an hour or so south of Whitehorse. It was a beautiful day, and given my frantic pace at work of late, the drive was a welcomed distraction. Here are some photos of scenes along the way. I must admit I did not take any of them - I left in such a hurry I forgot the camera.

And not far from Emerald Lake is Spirit Lake, taken from this web site.

And what's a trip to Carcross without stopping at what the locals call the world's smallest desert? The area used to be a glacial lake, but as the glacier retreated, the sandy lake bottom was left behind. We brought the kids here when then were little to toboggan.

Once I got to Carcross, the Chair showed me through his home which had been in the family for the last two generations. It was originally two log cabins which he has put together, and which have been lovingly restored by his hand. He proudly showed me his antiques....a piano that was carried over the Chilkoot Pass during the Gold Rush, a beautiful diningroom set once owned by his grandmother, one of the first electric Frigidaires, bookcases full of first edition books, and lots of old photographs. And the view from their back yard is breathtaking! I wanted to settle into one of his lawn chairs with one of those old books of his, but duty forced me back to Whitehorse.

For a Dad
My friend Ted has a new daughter. She's Winter Dawn, born yesterday morning. Seven pounds 10 ounces, healthy as a horse, both mom and baby doing well. I can't wait to see photos. Her brother Griffin, who wasn't at all sure about this new addition, has reportedly fallen deeply in love with her.

More Dreams
I was dreaming last night of buying houses. I was going to buy one from our friends Gord and Angela, but the deal fell through for some reason. Then a short while later, I decided to buy from them again - this time a different house. The place was huge; palacial. It had three fire places, six bedrooms, a sauna - way more space then I would ever need. But I bought it anyway. I don't remember Joe being there, although I'm sure he must have been. I seem to remember my friend Lucca telling me that dreaming about buying new houses means new beginnings. I wonder what's in store.
