Road Trip I had to make a run out of town today to get some papers signed by the Chair of our board and my task took me to Carcross....a little town about an hour or so south of Whitehorse. It was a beautiful day, and given my frantic pace at work of late, the drive was a welcomed distraction. Here are some photos of scenes along the way. I must admit I did not take any of them - I left in such a hurry I forgot the camera.
Emerald Lake, taken from this web site.
And not far from Emerald Lake is Spirit Lake, taken from this web site.
And what's a trip to Carcross without stopping at what the locals call the world's smallest desert? The area used to be a glacial lake, but as the glacier retreated, the sandy lake bottom was left behind. We brought the kids here when then were little to toboggan.
Once I got to Carcross, the Chair showed me through his home which had been in the family for the last two generations. It was originally two log cabins which he has put together, and which have been lovingly restored by his hand. He proudly showed me his antiques....a piano that was carried over the Chilkoot Pass during the Gold Rush, a beautiful diningroom set once owned by his grandmother, one of the first electric Frigidaires, bookcases full of first edition books, and lots of old photographs. And the view from their back yard is breathtaking! I wanted to settle into one of his lawn chairs with one of those old books of his, but duty forced me back to Whitehorse.
