Wheel Pose
Ode to Yoga I just got back from yoga class, and I was musing (for the umpteenth time) that no matter how stressed or grumpy I feel going into class, I always come out with a calm mind and a relaxed body. I know everyone has their own personal stress busters, but for me, yoga is the ultimate medicine. I credit yoga with returning me to health after my back injury a few years ago.
The thing I like about it (or one of many things) is that you don't have to be good at yoga to benefit from it. Whatever level you're at is perfect. Plus it's more than a physical workout - it's mental and emotional too.
So....if you are inclined to give it a try, here are some links that might get you started. This one shows some beginner poses. It's not essential, but it does help to know these basic poses before you start a class or yoga video.
There are a number of different types of yoga, and the names can be pretty confusing. This site can help you sort through all the various styles, but the bottom line is, don't sweat it. The movements are all based on the same postures or poses...just do what feels right to you. Enjoy!
