To the polls

Ballots in a few voting districts in Massachusetts will include non-binding questions about the decriminalization of marijuana in the upcoming election, according to the Boston Globe. Gosh, I wonder if they'll pass? If history is an indicator, it's a resounding yes.

In 2000 and 2002, ballot questions calling for decriminalization of marijuana or for allowing its use for medical purposes were put before voters in one Senate district and about two dozen House districts, passing in all of them.

It's one of those issues that may seem controversial, until you actually ask people about it.

From AP to Drudge: Daley runs Illinois

More than a few newspapers picked up the Associated Press story on Chicago's marijuana decrim proposal. Newsday's version has been linked by the Drudge Report (placed just above another link to an overlooked story about Isreali troops using cannabis to treat post traumatic stress disorder), so this story is now being widely disseminated.

The headline from Newsday is kind of amusing: "Daley Hints at Change for Ill. Drug Laws". Note to Newsday headline writers: As Chicago's mayor, Daley just runs the city, not the whole state (in theory at least).
