Emery weblogging from jail over one joint Some myths about small-time marijuana possession -
- Users caught with only a tiny bit of pot don't go to jail
- Canadian laws are even more lax about this
Well, not up in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The brilliantly subversive Canadian marijuana activist Marc Emery is now at the tail end of a 90-day sentence in a Saskatoon jail. Here's details on why he's there, but basically, it's because he passed one cannabis cigarette during a protest.
Marc has been blogging while incarcerated.
Understandably, Marc is not thrilled with Canada's national marijuana decrim proposal, since it includes many objectionable components, and he sees straight-out legalization as a more sensible option for Canada. I agree, but we're so far behind on the debate in the U.S., I think decrim is a necessary first step here.
