Statins May Cause Coenzyme Q10 Deficiency
Statin drugs, used by millions of Americans to lower cholesterol levels and prevent heart disease, actually cause a worsening of heart function in many people. The adverse effects appear to be caused at least in part by a drug-induced deficiency of coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) and can be reversed by CoQ10 supplementation according to the American Journal of Cardiology (2004;94:1306–10).
Bottom line: if you take statin drugs, you should be supplementing with CoQ10. Since CoQ10 acts like the "spark plugs" for oxygen utilization, it should also be on the "must have" supplement list of anyone with any type of heart problem.
