Another "FDA Approved" Failure
The FDA-approved drug Nesiritide, sold as Natrecor and used for heart failure, now appears to increase the risk of death instead of lowering it. 7.5% of patients given this drug died within 30 days of treatment compared to 4% of those treated with other drugs. Apparently, the FDA knew of the increased risk of mortality before approving the drug in 2001.
My question: do we really believe the FDA is capable of exercising more control over nutritional supplements when they have demonstrated a clear lack of ability to regulate dangerous drugs?
