Podcasting is
not Webcasting. . .
Doc Searls, over at
http://garage.docsearls.com says that we need to be clear on how we think,
talk and act about podcasting. It is truly a peer-to-peer, everybawdy-is-equal
system, there's no "content" and no "audience". It's a long post, go read it
and he closes by saying: Bottom line: As podcasting becomes more popular, . . .
it will be attacked. There will be efforts to bring podcasting into the
regulatory regime reserved for webcasters. We need to fight that. And that
fight starts in our own minds, and in our own speech
Podcast
Statistics. . .Truth or Fiction?!?
ipodderX says there are 2,497 podcasts, but as Dannie Gregoire wrote to me in an
email yesterday, shouldn't one be able to browse to the two thousandth podcast?
He got stuck after about 600, ipodderX guys want to comment? Mike at
manicminute dot net or voice mail at 832 218 3161 Dannie's process is here on
the text version of the podcast so you can try it yourself:
If you go to
http://ipodderx.com/directory this puts you into their what's new area.
Then go to the bottom, and press next (blue arrow). You will notice that the
URL changes at the top to include start=20. So, you should be able to fast
forward to the 2000th podcast by changing this number to 2000...but that returns
nothing. You have to back the number down to around 660 to start getting the
tail end of their list (all the original podcasters). This would seem to
indicate they are inflating their directory counts by nearly 1800 podcasts.
Other numbers of interest:
Google hits on podcasting: 853,000
www.Podcastalley.com total directory:
644
www.Podcasting.net total directory: 931
Unique downloaders from
www.softwareland.org: 1650
Total downloads from SoftwareLand last month: over 25,000
