Saturday, December 4th

Another good driving day in terms of miles driven.

Shortly after starting out in the dark early this morning, I came across an accident scene involving 3 cars.  Apparently, one car traveling in the same direction I was hit a parked car on the shoulder of the freeway causing another car to hit them both.  An officer was on the scene, but still it was unsettling to see three cars in the ditch and glass and metal everywhere.  Hopefully everybody was OK.  The odd thing about driving early Saturday morning was that there were a lot of cars on the shoulders of both sides of the freeway.  The only thing I could think of was that a healthy share of drivers were caught behind the wheel being intoxicated.  I find it unlikely that a number of vehicles broke down over the night.  In any event, it would have been helpful for motorists to have the unattended vehicles towed out-of-the-way as quickly as possible. (maybe that was in process)

The rest of the day was uneventful.  I fueled up in Peculiar, MO and decided to do my laundry since I'd be out on the road a week more than I had planned.  Then, after taking a shower, I dumped all my slightly wet clothes on my bunk to finish off the drying process as I drove through Missouri, Iowa, and a bit of Minnesota.

Well, now I sit here at the truck stop for 34-hours in order to receive my fresh batch of 70 driving hours over a 7-day period of time.  Therefore, the earliest I'll be able to leave for my Monday morning appointment in downtown Minneapolis at 7:30 AM is 12:30 AM (I parked the truck today at 2:30 PM).  It should only take me about 2-hours to get to the the delivery location.  However, the roads might be slick as snow is expected on Sunday and possibly Monday.  So I may need to leave at 12:30 AM to deliver the load on time!

Well it's now 5:15 PM and I enjoyed a beautiful sunset scene.  In about 15-minutes, it will be totally dark.  Bummer!  Oh well, I need to sleep anyway!  But first, I'll talk to the family, fold the wash, and check the e-mail.

miles driven = 603
