Turned out to be a leisurely day (If only I would get paid for these types of days!!)

After delivering my load around noon, I went back to the truckstop from yesterday.  There I received my next load assignment to be picked up tomorrow morning just south of San Antonio.  So I'll sleep here for a 2nd night in a row.

The new load takes me back to Wisconsin--about an hour from where I live and will be delivered Christmas Eve morning.  I think (and pray!) I have enough driving hours to get home.  I should just barely make it back to the drop yard where I park the truck before I run out of hours (70-hour rule).

My fleet manager had offered me a load to Denver.  I declined (unless I could do a 34-hour restart on the road and get me back in time for Christmas).  That's when he assigned me my current load.  Even so, I QualComm'd him that my wife would disown me if I didn't make it back for Christmas.   You think I'm kidding?

My wife is amazing.  She just finished putting bunk beds together for the kids.  They are all excited about that and are looking forward to sleeping in their beds.

Well, tomorrow starts the trek back to the frozen tundra where I live.  The kids are off from school so they had fun playing in the inch of snow that fell overnight.  I think it was in the single digits in Milwaukee this morning.  Brrr.  But it's warmed up today into the mid-20's.

I'll soak up the last remaining rays of the sun before calling it a day and packing it in for tomorrow.

miles driven = 16

PostScript: I ran into a driving team (husband & wife) from my company this evening at the truck stop.  It turns out that they live in the Eau Claire, WI area.  We had a nice chat.  It turns out that they picked up at the same place I will be picking up tomorrow.  They mentioned some items to be on the lookout for as I made my way there.  Be prepared for some bumpy roads, they said, as well as seeing deer, buzzards, and vultures.  Oh yeah, they waited four-hours to be loaded after they arrived there.  Well this should be fun--not exactly like most of the places I've been to pick up a load!
