A picture named andyI2.jpg

Got back into town around midnight on Friday night - still trying to process everything that I saw and did over the last week in San Francisco. Leander Kahney is hardly revered in the Mac Community (partially for certain ways that he portrays the community in his new book The Cult of Mac but one thing that he said in the chapter on MacWorld Expos was about how all year long you are poked and prodded for your wired little fascination with Apple and Macintosh but at MacWorld, it's like you are in this alternatve universe where everyone around you is Mac user and the whole fascination just dosen't seem odd in the slightest. We were having lunch one day at the Sony Metreon and it's so common these days to see people with laptops out but looking around the food court area, there was this huge abundance of Powerbooks everywhere you looked just soaking up the free WiFi.Like an alternative universe, it would have almost been almost totally out of place to see a Dell laptop show up in tha tenvironment.

In the next few days, I'll get things organized and post up a bunch of the pictures from the trip but in the mean time, the picture above is of myself and Andy Ihnatko who is one of my absolute favorite media personalities in the Mac Community. He's extremely funny and witty and his columns are always quite humorous yet informative. When I first came back to the world of Macintosh, I wrote Andy a long email about my experiences and motivations for switching and to my surprise, he not only wrote back (what can I say, I was used to the PC space, try emailing John Dvorak  and see what kind of response that you get back) but he took the time to write a really nice and sightful response full of helpful resources that as a new Mac user, I could really benefit from. So getting a chance to finally meet Andy in person was great and he was a genuinely warm and friendly. He's got a new series of books that came out this year and he appeared in on Audio (3mb) OR Video (17mb). YML also has a whole slew of video and audio files from people who appeared on the show plus other interviews from MacWorld.
