Why I'm dumping iPodderX
A picture named images.jpg

Eons ago (or at least 9-10 months ago) when Adam Curry released his very own AppleScript iPodder client (aka the Script that introduced Podcasting to the world - or at least those of us with Macs) -- I was hooked on the idea. For anyone who's paying attention, the genre has exploded like wildfire over the last 8 months and starting today, it makes it's commercial debut on two major fronts. The first is Adam's first day of commercial podcasting starts today on Sirus while in San Francisco, Dave Winer gets the honors of delivering the very first podcast when WYOU officially begins airing Podcasts over commercial airwaves.

Since those early days, much has changed. The tools have gotten considerably better on the iPodder side of things and it's easy to forget how young this whole movement is. I've experimented with various iPodder'ish tools over that time on different platforms but always returned to iPodderX despite it's somewhat ackward interface and strange backend behaviors, it got the job done for the most part. I most admired the iPodderX team for doing some cool things such as sponsoring the Evil Genius Chronicles which is a show near to my heart that's been there since the very beginning - big props to Dave Slusher for pioneering the distribution of Podcasts by way of Bit Torrent.

In related news, yesterday Ranchero Software released their much anticipated version 2 of NetNewsWire and IMHO, this is by far one of the greatest applications on the Mac platform. It's a quality piece of software with heavy emphasis on speed and a positive end user experience. Oh, by the way, NetNewsWire also now fully supports enclosures so my search for a new iPodder client has ended without ever really beginning. If you are a Mac user who hasn't yet tried NetNewsWire, do yourself a favor - this app will really change how you use the Internet.
