Podcasting Star Wars: Winer vs. Curry
From Make You Go Hmm....
A picture named currypowerbook.jpgOnce upon a time, in a podcasting galaxy not so far away, Dave Winer and Adam Curry were buddies. Curry would link to Winer, Winer would link back to Curry, the linklove was flowing. From this third party perspective, I probably wouldn’t have even remembered who Adam Curry was if Dave Winer hadn’t started talking about how much he enjoyed listening to Adam Curry’s Daily Source Code podcast.

How Apple will change everything about Podcasting, #1 -- iTunes won't be the eBay of podcasting, it will be the iTunes of podcasting:

So if you've read this blog for any length of time, you will inevitably notice that I make frequent comments about the ongoing adventures of Dave Winer. I've always respected Dave's intellect as a visionary and thanks for his countless creations, the evolved into the playground we all now enjoy. One thing about Dave that always blew me away was that he can obviously afford any computer his hear desires, and being an ace programmer, I never could understand why he choose to use Windows over Linux of Mac OSX. His background includes a ton Mac Development in the early days so he's hardly a stranger to the platform.

Anyway, in today's post, he makes mention of several of his acquaintances who are recent Mac switchers in addition to Dave mentioning the state of his current PC laptops. Could Dave be considering a potential switch to the Mac platform? We would only hope as Dave would be a very vocal advocate (both positive and negative) of the platform.

From the posting:

Tod Maffin switched to the Mac, Rex Hammock continues to break his vow of silence on the Mac, and I had a long interesting phone talk today with Ray Slakinski, lead developer of iPodderX, a podcast client for the Mac OS. Meanwhile both my PCs are suffering heavily, one from spyware (installed exactly one year ago today), and the other, well I'm not really sure what it's suffering from.

Ground Rules for the Windows-Macintosh War

Dave Pogue writes for the technology section of the New York Times and he's got an interesting piece that I wanted to share with you.

Last week, I wrote about some of the changes Microsoft has in store for the next version of Windows, which is slated for the end of 2006. Interestingly, very few of you responded to that column, probably because so much may change in the next 19 months.

But a few of you fired off diatribes about how I'm either a Microsoft "shill" or an Apple "apologist" (or maybe it was the other way around). It's not just me, either; it's a running sardonic joke among tech columnists that you can't even USE the word Apple or Microsoft without getting hate mail from somebody or other.

It's kind of amazing that various extremists could find the same column too pro-Microsoft AND too pro-Apple. But hey--that's the nature of ideological soldiers, whether they're in the conservative-liberal war, the evolutionist-creationist war or the Hummer-Prius war.

The Mac-Windows war, though, is especially pointless, protracted, and winnerless. There will always be people on each side who are every bit as rabid and un-convincible as those in any other religious war.

Still, I'd like to suggest, as a starting point of civility, a few pointers for participants in the O.S. war. Consider it one man's version of, "Can't we all just get along?"

  • 1. Hate something for its failings, not for its success.
  • 2. No condemning something until you've tried it.
  • 3. Execution matters.
  • 4. Don't make grandiose purchasing plans by guessing on technology's future.
  • 5. Consider that they may have a point
