Three easy steps for turning any iPod into an iPod shuffle, courtesy of [base "]mhusson[per thou]:
1. Get a Post-It note
2. Get your iPod
3. Put the Post-It note on the iPod
Now you can enjoy the iPod Shuffle[base ']s cool new feature without having to go buy a new player. Enjoy!
See, you just saved yourself a hundred bucks.

Anthenea.
Anthenea habitats are more like a raft than a boat. The UFO-styled pods have mainly been used on water so far
but the self-contained Anthenea can actually be placed anywhere. They are best suited for water however, where their
glass windows provide deepsea viewing without the need of a wetsuit. There are three models, the cozy studio,
two-story loft and the 1,900 square foot king which provides room for all the comforts of home. They all feature
posh interior details like Bang & Olufsen stereos and flatscreen TVs. I[base ']d still prefer something with a motor
but it[base ']s a neat idea for anyone who likes to stay in one spot.

The chew and type kit
Apparently many of us eat lunch in the company of our PCs and staplers.
Not only does the phenomenon have a name - "workersí desktop dining" -
it has also given way to the designing of dedicated utensils.
Vesselís
Workplace Dish Set
wraps up neatly in a desktop-size placemat made to fit in front of a
keyboard. This plastic kit packs a personal workplace place-setting,
including a plate, bowl, cup, and utensils. Can be stored flat or
upright. $39.

Guardian Angel bags
Dutch designers Hein van Dam and Carolien Vlieger are behind the
designs of handbags showing the outline of a gun, a crucifix or a
knife. Developed in response to media reports of growing fear of crime
in their home city of Rotterdam, the "Guardian Angel" bags are being
sold to women to protect them from robbers.
Their
collection
also includes laptop-bags with 3D patterns of milk and fruits because
"Robbers love your laptop, but they hate milk and fruits".

Tierra y Luna Rugs.
Like the author of Funfurde, the design-centric blog where we first saw
them, we think these rugs are nerdishly cool. They are made of virgin wool and the earth rug is almost 100 inches
in diameter and costs $2354.80. The moon rug is half the size and costs $707.60. Not quite living
room friendly but these would be great fun for an office or game room.

MSN Search supports RSS.
This is very cool, and it's a differentiator for their search service
because Google doesn't do it, nor does Yahoo, Jeeves, etc. It's also
nice because they listened to us at the design review meeting late last
year in Redmond. It was nearly unanimous among the bloggers that RSS
support should be part of the search engine, both on the sending and
receiving sides. Now one half has been taken care of. I'm sure this
feature will gain wide use among bloggers. Very good. [Scripting News]

Yamaha YSP1 Released in Canada. Yamaha
has released its YSP1 "Digital Sound Projector" multi-channel surround
system in North America[~]well, Canada, which is just like North America,
but with wolves. We talked about the system perhaps just a bit disparagingly
in November, prompting a few of you to explain that the 42-speaker
component was actually quite fantastic[~]certainly a better speaker than
we were writers, you explained. Now you'll have the chance to purchase
it and tell us how much better, presuming that the Canadian release
means the United States will get the product, as well. (Thanks, Jenny!)

Pictures from the zoo (more CES)
Motorola's snow boarding event, to demonstrate I don't know what.
Microsoft's Connected Home presentation which featured Star
Search-style dramatic vignettes about refrigerators talking to
televisions and garage openers.
Cheapo but cute bendy space man radios from GPX.
Mouse pads from Hong Kong with silicone breast wrist rests.
One of about a million vendors showing projection displays.
TV/DVD players for kids from Changhong.
Fake fur mobile bags from Golla.
Obviously not a part of CES (there is nothing edible in the Convention
Center, bring lots of quarters for vending machines), but here is the
patisserie in "Paris" near the Eiffel Tower. I think we must have been
used to not eating by then because we gawked but we didn't even buy one
pastry.

The Apple iPod Shuffle.
Guess that explains the shuffle banner! So we also got
you hooked up on the new iPod Shuffle, too: their new flash based player, as we just found out, will come in 512MB and
1GB sizes (for $99 and $149, respectively), and can act as a USB 2.0 mass-storage device by taking off the cap on the
bottom. (Hasn[base ']t Apple learned anything about flash drives with caps?) It will have have no display as you can see
(we[base ']re on the fence about this), but it is interfaced with simple play/pause, volume up/down, track foward/back
buttons, and a slider on the rear that engages the player and plays songs in order or shuffled. In that little 3.3 x
0.33 x 0.98-inch package you[base ']ve also got a USB-rechargeable 12-hour battery. The whole thing weighs 0.78 ounces, and is
shipping now, yo. Not too shabby for a flash player!
Thanks, guys. We[base ']ll make sure not to do that.

The Apple Mac Mini.
So Apple[base ']s released the details on their new Mac Mini, but we know you[base ']d rather see [OE]em here with all the rest of
the gadget goodness, so here you go! (Did we mention their site[base ']s been up and down?) So, as you can see, the slick
anodized-aluminum box houses a slot-loading drive (DVD/CD-R), DVI (and VGA by included adapter), Ethernet (10/100,
not Gigabit, unfortunately), USB 2.0, Firewire, audio out (but no audio in[~]this is a big deal!), a v.92 56k modem,
and is 6 x 6 x 2.5-inches. It will be $499 with a 1.25GHz G4 processor and 40GB hard drive, and $599 with a 1.42GHz
CPU and an 80GB drive.
Both will come standard with 256MB RAM, a 32MB ATI Radeon 9200, iLife [OE]05, but can be customized with up to 1GB of
RAM, an 80GB drive, integrated Bluetooth and Airport Extreme (what the rest of us call 802.11g WiFi). It should be in
stores Jan. 22nd, but some time around Jan. 20th we[base ']ll more than likely be getting the first reports of huge supply
shortages, and on Jan. 23rd we expect they[base ']ll be all sold out[~]this is going to be a huge seller to Mac first-timers,
and a necessity to Mac vets who want a second box in the den. So it goes!
