City politicians are smoking mad over a line of pot-flavored candies for local customers with the munchies.
Chronic Candy - hemp-based novelty lollipops and gumdrops that claim "every lick is like taking a hit" - is sparking controversy among critics who feel the sweets promote drug use among kids. "How could we go into market and create a product for children that encourages them to taste the taste of marijuana?" outraged Councilwoman Margarita Lopez (D-Manhattan) said on WPIX-Channel 11, "What is the message? 'Use drugs, that is okay?'"

Chaco was euthanized this morning. I don't know why I can only trust that the superiors of AC felt it was in Chaco's best interest....
I am saddened by the news since I had a couple good leads on him.

URGENT

Requesting rescue for a 9 year old purebred male Chocolate Labrador.
Owner surrender, requested put to sleep and rabies tested. Bite case.
Chaco was just surrendered a couple hours ago to our Animal Control
facility in South Bend, INDIANA. It is now 4:05PM on Tues. December 14-04.
Wife was sobbing didn't want to give up her dog, husband was yelling at
her and made her. Husband was also being rough "abusive" to dog per
Animal Control Staff. Story is Chaco bit the husband. Could this be a
jealousy case on hubby's behalf? Who knows. AC's first attempt to contact
owners to see if they would agree to have him go to rescue failed.
Husband wouldn't let wife come to the phone. Another AC officer of ours
called back spoke with husband explained that we could try to get him into
a rescue if they would agree. Husband OK'd rescue. Mustn't have been
TOO worried about that bite, huh. Things that make you go Hmmm.
As stated on his intake card filled out by owners Chaco is:
9 years old
Not neutered
House broken, good with kids, leash trained, obedience trained.
Current on shots annual vaccine given on 10-04 distemper, rabies.
Veterinarian history. Vet listed on intake card.
I personally met Chaco, Chaco is very obedient. He sits, shakes, and
lays down on command. He knows "Want to go bye bye?, Want to go for a
ride? and Want to go outside?"
I gave him all those commands personally as well as asked him those
questions. I am being given less than 48 HOURS. Chaco's hold will expire
on Thurs. at 5:00 12-14-04.
