Glenn Greenwald: Chained to a corpse?

Today our subject is another blogger turned paid gasbag, a real favorite of the Atriots and the rest of the horsey blogger set, his blog is titled: Unclaimed Territory. Yeah, I know you think I'm going off on one of my meltdowns, but honestly, if it weren't for two tangential events, this rather pedestrian thinker really doesn't light up my intellectual radar screen and never did.

The first of the events which drew my involvement was upon learning that Greenwald had signed on with Salon, the mediocre web magazine which has seen better days. Good for him. Now, last year Salon got out of the business of hosting any new blogs or old ones if they happen to be mine. Imagine my surprise when I learned they were looking for new bloggers when there are a half a dozen bloggers on their own server better than this guy.

The second thing is that I have been banned from commenting on UT anymore and I can't imagine why. I can only recall commenting once yesterday, something like, "You're wordy alright, Salon will love that!" Or words to that effect. Is Greenwald another thin-skined petit pundit who can dish it out but can't take it? Or is he blubbering about the snobish incivility of bloggers on the Atrois mold?

That said, I think it could work for him there and here's why: Good bloggers are terse, great bloggers, down right succinct. If you can't say it, and get it right in two hundred words or less, you're in the wrong fuckin' racket, Jack. This ain't the Supreme Court. The blogosphere is neither a thoughtful nor a reflective medium, it's more defined by the speed of the communications then their depth. Salon is more like an old fashioned magazine with lots of space to fill. Longish writers like Greenwald have a place there. With writers like Gary Kamyia and Glenn, could the first million character blogpost be far away? I wish him good luck at Salon, but I fear he'll need it.

I have no problem with the guy, and I'm sorry if I offended him, really. Why ban me? With so many others more worthy of my offenses, it's a shame pissant stuff like this has to go on. Nobody fucks with Finnegan and gets away scot-free.

. A skinless frankfurter?
