Cheap date: Forget a million bucks. On Oscar night, Jules Asner will look like 5 million bucks.

Every couple of months I'll take the plunge again, and I just don't know why I do it. This morning must've had that 'perfect morning' feel to it. The perfect vibe to once again attempt installing an email package that will remove all my communication woes.

Wrong again. I really hoped Apple's OSX Mail client would be able to replicate the pleasurable experiences I've encountered so far with this next generation operating system.

I say next gen, because it's really a previous generation, BSD Unix that you find when you lift the hood. It's the interface that's unique. I figured I should be able to get pretty much all the performance and stability of the unix mail program Pine, which I've used as my primary email client since 1988.

Big Dissapointment, I don't even want to tell you how crappy and slow it is. If only I could get people to STOP SENDING ATTACHMENTS, certainly DO NOT put your message in a WORD DOCUMENT. Since Pine doesn't interact well with the desktop attachments are an added hassle that I'm no longer willing to put up with. DELETE.

Pine by the way, is awesome for mail-jockeys who need the speed and one key felxibility to manage the deluge. Particularly the select commands ; t ! t adam@curry.com is my favourite, that key sequence tells Pine to select all message NOT sent directly to me. Great way to weed out the crap.

GUI Schmooey.

Looking forward to Dave's Instant Outliner with great anticipation. I think in outlines, I want to share outlines. I wish some people were outlines, I'd love to collapse some of their nodes I don't care for and expand other nodes I love....
