Pulling back the curtain, so pay no attention...
McGee sez: It can be discouraging to think about all the learning that takes place outside of, and often in spite of, the classroom. It helps to have come to teaching after a long time in practice rather than straight from a Ph.D. program. It also helps to have finally reached a point where I see how little I learned inside classrooms. I would add, however, that another good reason for going to a physical place for school is to go talk to those professors outside the classroom. Always remember, that Anna Freud (yea, his daughter) is alleged to have said "Creative minds have always been known to survive any kind of bad training." I had this instructor who was always telling me to "suss it out" for myself (electronics lab, where I created more than a few examples of components with the 'magic' smoke let out of them...). I groused about his attitude then, but he pushed me toward places I would not have gone to on my own, otherwise. For that, I do thank him. 10:56:06 PM [] blah blah blah'd on this [ blinked via McGee's Musings ]
Well, there is that one, too, I guess... Evan (lord god king Blogger) offers a darn good reason why pair programming is uber-effective. I think this reason might even persuade some of Duncan's students. Ev's not working in C or assembler right now, folks, but you have to give him some mad props for this one... :-) 10:22:30 PM [] blah blah blah'd on this
