Great Article by John Gruber over at Daring Fireball. His great main point, that in some markets, Apple is not the struggling niche player, but rather The Company To Beat. The iPod is definitely one of those.
As a personal add-on to this, my wife spotted the iPod in a recent "ER" episode, in which the character, not only named the product, but also spent a minute or two describing it. On the street I spot iPods every day. Apple is the company to beat for digital audio players, IMO.
