Hallow'een

Well, Halloween is bearing down with giant freight-train wheels. My daughter needs to have her costume ready in time for a Halloween event at the Stone Zoo. Have I even started on it? Of course not.

Of course, that's what happened last year, and she had her costume ready (barely) in time. Not to mention that it survived to Arisia, where she wore in her first solo stage appearance (and that was a cool milestone for her 5th birthday, IMO).

Mind you, there's been, as always, a bit of confusion on what she wants to be. Her first idea (as has been the history since last year) is great. (She wanted to be a half-evil, half-good cat. (thinking halloween-style cat for the "Evil" half.)

Then everyone starts giving her crap.

  • Her best friend doesn't want to do anything scary
  • Her mother buttonholes her on why the "evil" half is black and why the "good" half is white.
  • Her mother then gets into a discussion of what would make halves of the cat evil or good.

Now it's a "Magical" cat. Which I can live with, but I thought the original idea was pretty cool.

Last year, same kinda thing. She originally wanted to be Gir from Invader Zim, next thing you know, she wants to be a "princess" (which is fine, but she did that last year :))

I chatted with her about it, and she decided to go ahead with Gir, and again, I started late, but thanks to sacrifices to the Hot Glue god, we finished in time, and she was thrilled about it. (In fact we only recent were allowed to throw it away, with promises that we'd make a better one later)

Halloween was ok, I had to make her a sign that told people who she was. (The problem with being into non-mainstream stuff).

She was a superstar at Arisia. I had to convince her that people would recognize her, and then she couldn't go down a hallway without someone yelling "Gir!!"

Next year, when she comes up with her great first idea, I'm gonna start work immediately, so she'll be psyched and stay with it.

TiVo Perils

"No, no, don't answer it!" I yelled. "It's your parents! They're calling from the future!" [Kottke.org Undesign] via PVRBlog

I can't wait to slip back out of the time stream (My ReplayTV is having issues.)

New iTunes for Windows

So here's a thought; does the new iTunes work with any other MP3 players? After all, in Mac OS X, I can still use it to connect to my 2 Rio's that I still have (My daughter uses 'em). So, I wonder if it can do the same on the windows side.

Anyone?

Update: Looks like it's answered in this article on C|Net, and the anser is "no". That's too bad, but WTH, it's version 1.0 for Windows, so maybe they'll add more.
