What's amazingly weird about this week is that - for me - I've been posting up a storm. Why this is weird, is that I've been so hammered at work and other activities, that I've not even had time to write e-mail replies and get my paperwork (well, it's not on paper, but same thing) done.
Must be some kind of pressure release thing. So, to get more Weblog posts - I just need to get really stressed. Good plan....Good Plan.

Ian's "Lost"
So, had to reboot the ReplayTV last night. Ended up watching 5 minutes of "Lost" on "live" TV. Absorbed enough into it in those 5 minutes that I went back to the channel when the Replay came back up.
It turned out to be the last few minutes anyways, but I'm clearly going to have to check it out. I've been meaning to, but...well, everyone's been gushing about it, and that makes me suspicious. Unless, of course, it's me gushing about it. (i.e.: Battlestar Galactica)

OMG: Tech Superpowers "hold" music
Oh dear, I just called the office and got put on hold on our new phone system. Aiiiiiie!!! Bad music! O.K. it's not THAT bad, but..this is what I get for not submitting something when Michael (El presidenté) asked.

Ian Reads Ars so you don't have to...
*Sigh*
Yes, more on the "Moving to Intel" thing.
So, if you want, you can read this thread going on over at Ars Technica (an excellent site, btw)
Make sure you have a lot of time on your hands....
Anywho, a realization that I have gleaned from this. Or, if not a realization, a clarification.
By moving to Intel chips for the CPU, Apple has just removed concerns about their chips from the "list of problems". This is not as minor as it may seem.
First off, they do add one basic problem; they will no longer be playing "we're faster than you are". No more "The worlds fastest, etc" like they did with the G4, and the G5. That's sorta too bad.
However, as entertaining those ads were. How many sales do you think it made for Apple? Probably a few. But not loads, or their market-share wouldn't still be low.
Now, remember when the G4's hadn't been speed bumped in like 9 months? Remember when people couldn't get the new machines that had been announced as being available "in a few weeks"?
Go look those incidents up (G4 Shortages and G5 Shortages). Think Apple lost any sales because of that? Which do you think lasted longer, an ad that was on for a few weeks, or shortages that went on for months? And this wasn't "wow, so many people are buying", this was "We don't have the chips", Apple's production being pushed is a good thing. Idle production lines waiting for supplies is doublebadthink.
Say goodbye to all that. Apple couldn't sell enough machines to push Intel's production. And if I am proven wrong, you will find me out on the street asking passersby to kick me in the rear and cheering the whole time. That would be doublegoodthink. In fact, Apple would kill to have that happen.
But they, and I, would simply settle for never having to see these headlines ever again....
